Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
Upon your arrival at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, just south of Myrtle Beach, it quickly becomes evident you are on special, almost sacred, grounds.
Built on an old rice plantation, the grand entrance takes golfers back in time through rows of twisted live oaks and hanging Spanish moss to reach the Old South-style clubhouse. But the real fun begins once you hit the links.
Caledonia and it’s sister course The True Blue Golf Club continued to gain national recognition in 2016. These two golf facilities combine great design, each with a special visual and playing experience and southern hospitality to make for a true low country golf experience. The list of accolades this year includes these and others……

#41 True Blue
“To say this year has been tremendous would be an understatement” said Bob Seganti, PGA , director of golf operations for both clubs. “We are thrilled with the achievements we have had for Caledonia and True Blue courses and will continue to provide our guests with the best possible experience at our courses going into 2017”
Both clubs are Mike Strantz designs and are two of the most played and recommended clubs in the Myrtle Beach area.
Some golfers prefer drivable par-3s, others love the long par-5s. But all agree that the 19th hole is their favorite, and the Myrtle Beach area has plenty. ... Read More

From the moment you turn into the drive, Caledonia is a feast for the senses. The driveway through the arch of trees, with Spanish moss hanging, down to the turn at the top of the drive and your first view of the clubhouse, to the condition of the course, which was immaculate.
The staff were welcoming and friendly, all around the club.
The course is challenging, not overly long, but driving into the right places to be able to attach the greens, one or two of which are quite small, particularly the par 5 10th, which, if you are to hit it in two, requires a long iron or wood, over a large waste bunker to a small target, between two more bunkers and the entrance road.
Opening with a straight forward par 4, you get welcomed well and truly by the 2nd, a long par 5, with a large tree on the right side that forces you to fade or play safe left, but avoid the rough if you want to get there in 2. The courses has some picturesque par 3's and they begin at the 3rd, not long but the waste bunkers are large and frame the hole nicely. Each hole from here on, welcomes you to a different view, and challenge. The Par 5 8th hole allows you to choose to take on a big drive over the bunkers and gives a good chance to reach it, but there is a lake in front which will catch any approaches not perfectly struck. 9 is a short 3, but with a tricky green that looks small from the tee box but actually affords a little more room. The back nine doesn't let up and the Par 3 11th is a good looking hole with a narrow front to the green and a stream running along the left side. It doesn't let up with beauty abounding. The 18th may not be everyone's cup of tea, you are forced to play short off the tee and driver isn't necessary for most, as position is absolutely key to allow a simple pitch across the river to the green.
Allow yourself time to sit on the porch on one of the rocking chairs, watching others approach shots on 18 and taking in the beauty some more - it is well worth it.
I played a couple of other courses in the area, but this is spectacular in it's beauty and I will return, and highly recommend a visit to this gem of a course.
I made a late reservation, but was paired with a three-some. When I arrived the staff was courteous and welcoming. They arranged for me to meet my playing partners and get ready to play. Although this was my first time st Caledonia I felt like a frequent client. The course was fantastic and so I really enjoyed my time. I look forward to my next trip down.
This is the nicest golf course in the Myrtle Beach area. Absolutely pristine from tee to green. Staff is very friendly. Pace of play was great. Even with the high price tag, it's worth every penny.
