Litchfield Country Club
Litchfield Country Club
Litchfield Country Club is a proud lowcountry tradition, passed down to generations of members, friends and families since it opened for play in Pawleys Island in 1966.
A true tradition and history are steeped in this 18-hole golf course, among the original eight great courses built on the Grand Strand – and thee first on the south end. Handcrafted by Willard Byrd, the par-72 Litchfield is also traditional by design throughout its 6,752 yards, with narrow fairways, sharp doglegs, but also player-friendly greenside pathways. Original features are prominent.
Also prominent here are the whispers of southern past, on the former grounds of one of the largest rice plantations on the Waccamaw Neck, lakes, and in the stately plantation-style clubhouse surrounded by giant live oaks dating back to the 18th century.
Accolades of today include 4.5 stars in Golf Digest’s “2008 Places to Play” and “World’s 50 Best – 1996,” as named by Conde Nast Traveler.

First time playing Litchfield the golf course was in excellent condition and the staff were A1. Not my favorite layout for me, (too many doglegs) but all in all a hell of a deal for the course quality.
Old style great to play and enjoy setting
All holes different and require good accuracy.
Made error on booking date and MBG and Litchfield staff very helpful in resolving
Starter was not knowledgeable. At the turn he made us wait 25 minutes to allow late arrivals to tee off. We waited while they putted on the practice green while the first tee box was open. We were started on the 10th which was fine but not being allowed to play through on the first ruined what had been a very positive experience.
It also spoiled what would have been a wonderful day on a beautiful course that I have played multiple times. Litchfield is one of my favorite courses that I was excited to take friends to. Not a positive experience.
Do yourself a favor a play somewhere else. We arrived early for check in and it's a good thing we did. The pro shop service was slow and the starter had an attitude. We explained that the brake on the cart wasn't working. He treated us like we were stupid until he got in and tried it... needed a new cart. Then he sent out twos behind fours and then threes. Play was slow, we had to skip holes to get around the slow players and by the time we finished the grill and clubhouse were closed... no facilities available; and not a marshall on the course.
We have played here in the past but never again.
A solid course but not designed for the big hitters. Many short par 4's with severe dog legs which require a 200-220 tee shot to be in ideal position. shot makers course for sure. greens are small but undulating. They rolled well. A bit of water on most of the somewhat tight tree lined holes. A few times it was not possible to see where the water was even though they had poles with flags on many of the holes. overall we enjoyed the day even though we didn't play very well.
