World’s Largest 19th Hole Brings Extra Flavor to the World Am In Myrtle Beach

The largest amateur golf event on the planet, the Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship, takes place in the most fitting of locations: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Only an area with 100 golf courses would do as a setting for a five-day golf extravaganza that brings upwards of 3,500 birdie- and bogey-makers to well over half of the area’s layouts.

You can read more about the general tournament at www.WorldAmGolf.com, but for the purposes of this article, we will be focusing our attention on what some participants might consider the real main attraction: the World’s Largest 19th Hole. Because after a long day on the links, in the heat of battle and the South Carolina sunshine, it’s time to cut loose.

Luckily, the enormous Myrtle Beach Convention Center is only too glad to accommodate the entire field (access to the World’s Largest 19th Hole is included with each entry fee). Dozens of thousands of square feet house a plethora of exhibitors, offering the latest golf products, vacation giveaways and especially food and beverages. Representatives of Gosling’s Rum generally set up shop in the middle of the action, pouring the national drink of Bermuda, the Dark & Stormy, which is a simple yet pleasing potion of dark rum and ginger beer—drier, less sugary cousin to ginger ale. Other adult beverages are also available—what 19th Hole would be complete a full menu?

Local Myrtle Beach restaurants are also happy to pitch in, catering a buffet-style dinner each night—pasta, chicken and barbecue are staples, as well as some more local specialties.

Special exhibits also abound at the 19th Hole. The ever-growing list includes some of the biggest names in golf equipment, apparel, travel and technology. Bridgestone Golf representatives will be on hand to offer free golf ball fittings to attendees, while Ecco will be present to show off some of their astoundingly comfortable and popular golf shoes. Oakley will show off sunglasses and more, apparel giant Oxford Golf will be showcasing their well-regarded golf clothing and Kentucky Royalty will be sporting their fine, innovative golf-specific socks. Other attending exhibitors include Barefoot Resort, Holiday Inn, the International Network of Golf, Orange Whip Trainer, PGA Tour Superstore and UST Mamiya and more.

The Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship takes place in Myrtle Beach from August 26-30. For more information about it and the World’s Largest 19th Hole, visit www.WorldAmGolf.com.
