Sea Trail – Byrd
Following his imaginative style of design, the Willard Byrd Course at Sea Trail is built around seven man-made lakes ranging from 14 to 20 acres where each hole is most memorable for beauty and exacting play. The waste areas, along with mounding and pot bunkers, require that every hole be approached both differently and strategically in order to reach ByrdÕs undulating greens. A picturesque 18th hole, flawlessly placed between two ponds, finishes the course at the Jones/Byrd Clubhouse. Rated 4 STARS by Golf Digest- 2004 Golfweek Best Resort Course of Distinction- 2004/2005 Golf Digest 50 Best Courses in Myrtle Beach- 2005 Golf Digest Top 100 Courses in North Carolina- 2006

View This ResortCourse was extremely overrated. The greens were the worst I have played in a long time, it was an extremely disappointing experience. The rating of the course as compared to others on the website was grossly inflated. The other courses rated similarly are significantly better conditioned and serviced. We saw the beverage cart on 1 tee and 17 fairway!
First experience was a starter who said we couldn't have coolers even though there was no liquor in it. I was carrying a plastic bag cooler with snacks and cigars.
They haven't cut the greens in far too many days. They simply needed to be cut, days before we played. Another review 3 days earlier indicated the same situation, but we assumed they remedied the issue by the weekend. Disappointed, all 4 of us, as it felt like putting in 1930 on a shag carpet.
Otherwise, service and course was great.
They fertilized and watered the greens the night before and didn't mow. No fun to watch the rooster tails behind our bouncing balls as they tried to avoid the debris.
Byrd layout is still nice - especially the back nine - although the last hole being a par 5 was hard to believe at under 450 yards. Golf carts are very bumpy in places. Staff very nice. Mary Lane on the drink cart was very friendly and there when we needed her.
