Panther’s Run Golf Links

The Panther’s Run Golf Links course prowls with The Big Cats family of courses at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Sunset Beach, N.C., where Jaguar’s Lair, Lion’s Paw, Tiger’s Eye and Leopard’s Chase also live.

Panther’s Run purrs with beauty, but will also snarl and snap – designed to test a golfer’s skills, but not break his confidence in the game. Architect Tim Cate moved very little dirt when building the 18-hole course, with respect to the pristine nature preserve surroundings. The full course opened in 1995.

Expect generous landing areas and brand-new MiniVerde greens, open fairways with very little mounding lined with grassy areas, ponds or brooks. Total yardage is 7,086.

The Panther’s Run resume includes a listing on Golf Digest’s “Best New Courses” when it first opened, as well as Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” and their “Top 50 of Myrtle Beach.” The pro shop was even ranked as one of “America’s Top 100 Golf Shops” for four consecutive years.

Nice little layout at Panther's Run. Course could use a little TLC. Greens were thin in some places but overall putted very well. Definitely a good warm up course for the week of golf ahead of me.

This season the greens were in rough shape. Having to navigate the numerous potholes on the cart paths was extremely disappointing.
My partner from Canada was not impressed.

Nice course. However, seven of us played and we all agreed the staff here was the rudest we have ever experienced. It was as though we were a bother to them. Sorry for the inconvenience, we will not be back.

Hard to express how disappointed we were at the course conditions and the low level of customer service. We played Lion's Paw and Tiger's Eye many years ago and they were then top level courses. Panther's Run is simply run-down. None of the Par 3 tees had been mown in the past several days. Some other tees were simply not taken care of. Fairways were at best OK. Greens are a mess - with invading grasses mixed with the MiniVerde, they were bumpy enough to knock a decent speed putt off line. The club loading was borderline insulting; you would have never known we were customers. We were treated as obstacles to the guys getting the carts loaded. The driving range is also in shabby condition - fully 1/2 the balls were completely worn out and discolored. Poorly kept target areas - really had an uncared-for appearance. On the positive side, the lady keeping bar was delightful as was the refreshment cart lady. I won't be back and I will caution anyone interested to save their $82 and play elsewhere.

Great course. Nice layout, challenging yet playable.

It would be helpful if you would define the format for entries prior to submission.

The course was in very good shape and that was after a very heavy rainstorm

Have played several rounds of golf at Myrtle Beach throughout the years, Panther's Run was in worst shape than any that I've played! Tee boxes and fairways were in terrible shape. Greens weren't much better.
