COURSE REVIEWSSt. James Plantation - The Gauntlet Course CapsuleBy Shane Sharp,
COURSE CAPSULE - The Gauntlet Opened: 1991 Designer: P.B.Dye (Prestwick Golf Club) Course Style P.B. Dye's lone solo design effort along the Grand Strand is the venerable ole track of St. James Plantation - and it's not even that old. In stark contrast to the narrow, tree-lined fairways of the Players Club, the Gauntlet is a wide open, wind-swept course more reminiscent of Kiawah Island's Ocean Course, or some of the other Charleston area coastal tracks. According to St. James Staff, it is not one of the more popular selections amongst the ladies. Course Ratings Conditions: A What to Look For:Sure, the Gauntlet may be a wide open course, and on a hot, still day you may be looking to go low. But notice how Dye has raised a majority of the greens to prevent savvy players from taking dead-aim at the flagsticks.
