This time, it's the south strand weighing in with the much-anticipated International Club in Murrell's Inlet. The International Club is a Willard Byrd designed layout located just off Tournament Boulevard, reached from Bypass 17 in Murrells Inlet to Highway 707.
Byrd has designed over 200 golf courses throughout his career, and bringing something new to the table each time is a challenge. The International Club will use rolling terrain, crystal clear lakes, and TifEagle Bermuda grass greens in an attempt to set itself apart from other Myrtle Beach courses. As is the latest trend in teeing area designs, Byrd has provided five sets of tees, ranging from 6,790 yards to 4,863 yards to appeal to all skill levels and ages. The course is touting two signature holes at this point:
The eleventh, which features an island green par- 3 with a spectacular drive over one of the spring fed, crystal clear lakes, and the fourth hole, a 353 yard, par-4 in which the green is completely engulfed by shimmering wetlands.
In terms of landscape, International will showcase a combination of pine trees, and hard wood oaks and other vegetation that is unique to the northern edge of South Carolina's Lowcountry.
International will also feature a 7000 square foot clubhouse, a fully equipped and merchandised pro shop, a restaurant and a lounge. The course is slated to open in March 2000, and reservations are available by calling 1-800-TEE-OFFS (833-6337).
