Blackmoor Named Course of the Year

  MYRTLE BEACH, SC (August 23, 2001) - Blackmoor Golf Club, the only area course designed by Gary Player, has recieved the "Golf Course of the Year Award" for 2001 from the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association.

The award was judged in the areas of golf course maitenance, quality of management, contributions to the community and contributions to the growth of the game. Blackmoor, which now becomes eligble for state and national awards, was selected because of its strength in each of these areas.

Its community involvement includes offering environmental education programs to public schools, hosting charity tournaments and supporting a local chapter of the Audubon Society. Blackmoor has contributed to the growth of the game by offering junior golf clinics as well as a variety of adult programs.

"We are honored to have been chosen as Golf Course of the Year," said Jim Creel, President of Longwood Golf Corporation DBA Blackmoor Golf Club. "To be selected by our peers and members of the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association speaks well of Blackmoor Golf Club and our staff. We are excited to continue to the state and national levels."

The association intiated the award in 1996, and since then recipients have included the Tradition Club, Baytree Golf Plantation, Arrowhead Country Club, and National's King's North at Myrtle Beach National.

"With more than 100 golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area competition for this award has been keen over the last few years," said George Hilliard, Executive Director of the MBGCOA. "The recipient of this award represents the Grand Strand's golf course community on a state and national level."

The par 72 course which plays just over 6600 yards from the back trees was built on the historic Longwood Plantation. Flowing lakes, oak trees, and tall pines line the 419 Bermuda fairways and Tift Dwarf Bermuda greens.
