Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses" was established in 1966 and is considered to be the oldest and most respected ranking in the game of golf.
More than 800 professional and low-handicap golfers judged 400 candidates on shot values, design variety, memorability, playability, aesthetics and conditioning. The rankings are published bi-annually.
GolfWeek used numerous criteria to rate the golf courses for "America's Best Modern Courses," including the ease and intimacy of routing, integrity of design, putting ad chipping contours, bunker shapes and slopes, strategic flexibility of layout, fit of golf course with natural surroundings, overall land planning and conditioning.
