Rulewich Design Is On List Of Nominations For Golf Digest's "Best New Courses In America" For 2001

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (MAY 1, 2001) The Grande Dunes Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, S.C., which opened for play on May 1, is the centerpiece of The Golf Village at Grande Dunes, an exclusive resort/residential community that is setting a new standard for graceful and elegant living along the Carolina Coast.

The Grande Dunes Golf Course, a Roger Rulewich Group design, has already received notice that it is on the list of nominations for Golf Digest's "Best New Course In America" for 2001.

At 7618 yards from the tips, the par 72 Grande Dunes Golf Course is a dramatic design that is located on a high bluff overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. Seven holes of the golf course play along the Intracoastal, providing golfers with panoramic views of the Waterway, maritime forest and the Atlantic Ocean, which is less than a mile away.

The course has numerous elevation changes and features wide Bermuda fairways, generous L-93 bent grass greens, and more than 34 acres of fresh water lakes.

"We are thrilled with the Grande Dunes Golf Course and on May 1 the public will get to see what all the excitement is about," said Robert Harper, Director of Golf Operations for Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc., Grande Dunes' management company.

"Roger Rulewich has taken an extraordinary piece of land and delivered a layout that magnifies its natural beauty. The course will only enhance Grande Dunes' growing reputation as the most spectacular resort/residential community in the Carolinas."

Grande Dunes Golf Course is one of the first independent designs crafted by architect Roger Rulewich who worked with legendary architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., for more than 30 years.

As Senior Design Associate for Jones, Rulewich¹s list of credits include the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama and the Apple Rock Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas (Golf Digest¹s Best New Resort Course).

While with Jones, he also worked on the original design of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course (Lake Manassas, Va.), which has been host site for several Presidents Cups, and the redesigns of the famed No. 3 course at Medinah Country Club (Medinah, Ill.), the Bellerive Country Club (St. Louis, Mo.), and Valderrama Golf Club (San Roque, Cadiz, Spain).

Grande Dunes Golf Course features multiple elevated teeing areas and the course ranges from 5353 yards (Ruby/forward tees) to 7618 yards (Black/ championship tees).

There are also four additional sets of tees: Gold tees < 7195 yards; Sapphire tees < 6754 yards; White tees < 6305 yards; and Silver tees < 5896 yards. A Mediterranean-style clubhouse will feature a full-service pro shop, lockers for men and women, a restaurant and catering facilities able to accommodate elaborate post-golf functions.
