Mystical Golf Adds Magical Moments to your Myrtle Beach Golf Getaway

Make your Myrtle Beach golf vacation a truly magical experience by playing a trio of championship courses owned and operated by Mystical Golf.

Featuring three distinctly different 18-hole layouts near the Carolina Forest section of Myrtle Beach, Mystical Golf allows players to put their games to the test with Man O’ War, The Witch and The Wizard. While the names might sound like something out of a science-fiction fantasy film, the courses are very real – and very fun for those who choose to accept the challenge. Here’s a closer look at what makes each course magical:

* Man O War: You might want to bring your waders along for your round just in case because this 7,000-yard beast features more water than terra firma. Built around a 100-acre lake on the Waccamaw Heritage Nature Preserve, Man O’ War was the brain child of designer Dan Maples, who used the natural lake as the centerpiece of the course.

Despite the abundance of water hazards and waste areas, Man O’ War is actually a player-friendly layout for those who can hit it long and straight. Maples provided plenty of landing spots and wide fairways to level the playing field with all the water. The highlights of the course are the back-to-back island green holes, Nos. 14 and 15, and the famed Nos. 8 and 9 are basically island holes, with water making up almost all the surface.

The course boasts the largest greens on the Grand Strand, giving golfers a fair chance to make some par-saving putts. Take advantage of the driving range and practice facilities to brush up on your swing before your round, and enjoy a post-round drink at the scenic clubhouse on the water.

* The Witch: Don’t let the name fool you; this layout is a work of beauty. Dan Maples moved a million cubic yards of earth and built nearly 1 mile in bridgework to complete this work of art, which sits on a 500-acre area filled with wetlands and woodlands.

Playing at 6,700 yards and tightly framed by water, trees and waste bunkers, The Witch requires a deft touch to stay dry and clear of the dense rough. The same factors that make The Witch a great challenge are also what make it a great escape to nature.

One of the trickiest holes is No. 9, which requires a blind tee shot followed by a blind approach shot. Other holes are more straight-forward, a nice mix of doglegs and elevated greens. It all adds up to an enjoyable round in a scenic location.

* The Wizard: The links course in this Maples trilogy completes the well-rounded golf experience provided by Mystical Golf. Measuring only 6,700 yards from the back tees, The Wizard more than makes up for the distance with some well-designed holes requiring golfers to use every club in their bag.

Although The Wizard features fewer water hazards than its sister layouts, there are several ways to end up in the drink, including a small stream that crosses a few fairways. The finishing hole is your best chance of getting wet, with an island tee, island fairway and a peninsula green.

The Witch is a player’s course, providing birdie opportunities for those who are having a good day. Visit the Scottish castle-style clubhouse for post-round celebration.

Mystical Golf offers three great courses with their own distinct identities, and packages are available that allow golfers to stay on site and play the trio of layouts. Book your next Myrtle Beach golf getaway with Mystical Golf and get ready to make some magic.
