This is a forum by MyrtlebeachGolf.com readers talking about where to play in the Grand Strand area. E-mail publisher@myrtlebeachgolf.com with any of your thoughts about golf courses in Myrtle Beach.

We have made a number of trips to Myrtle Beach. Most of the time we have stayed at Ocean Lakes Camp Ground. They have camping sites for trailers, and tents; in addition to renting campers. There is a community center with events for children, a play ground, adult events, 2 swimming pools, minature golf and many other activities. I'd reccommend them to anyone.

We just got back from our seventh annual vacation to Myrtle Beach. This year there was a group of eighteen of us ( husbands, wives and kids) and we all stayed at the OCEAN CREEK RESORT. What a place ! The rooms were great (we stayed in the south tower) and the view was fantastic. One of the rooms( 6th fl) even had a outdoor deck the size of both the dinning room and kitchen put together. The pool area's were clean and the lunches at the outdoor beach club were tasty and reasonably priced. One real nice feature is that Barefoot Landing is right across the road so we had easy access to restaurants and shopping. The grounds were very clean and well kept . Another nice feature is the towers are so far back from the road that your not bothered by road traffic noise. While we were there we played Belle Tere, River Hills, LongBay and The Pearl. I would recommend all of the courses with the exception of Belle Tere. It was WAY over priced for a course that is nothing spectacular. LongBay was tough (greens like glass) . The Pearl was my fav. We're all looking forward to heading back next May.

July 1997 my family and I stayed at the Bluewater Resort. When we arrived, the room was filthy and smelled terrible. We finally got someone to clean it, no apology really offered. The restaurant was non-functioning and it took 45 min. to get an elevator from the 2nd floor!! However, we made the most of it and enjoyed the pools. We have reservations at Bar Harbor for July of 1998. Does anyone have any comments on this one? Thanks!!!

I recently went to the beach (April 24) for Prom weekend. I plan to return for Memorial Day Weekend--a tradition since 9th grade. Its real fun and wild. For all you teenagers looking for a party after graduation-like me- the breach is the place to be. Its going to be filled with phat cars and opposite sexes that are just waiting to me new and exciting people. Look for the drop dead gorgeous girl in the drop dead gorgeus Cavalier or Amigo and that will be me and my cousin crusin the strip till dawn. We stayed at a hotel called the Caravan. Its really nice! The beach is the place to be Memorial Day Weekend. Its a small Freaknic!!!!!

Planning to Visit MB, mid July. Stayed at the Palace last year We were very unhappy with our room. I don't know when it was used last but it smelled very badly. There were no blankets. The front desk staff were very rude. The housekeeping staff kind, but gone at 3 and you couldn't get any blankets after they were gone. There were cigarette butts clogging the garbage disposal and that was the source of the odor. The view is beautiful and it has a nice location, but we are staying at the Crown Reef this year. Any comments about this new hotel would be appreciated. Thank you. 5/18/98

5-17-1998 I have been staying at the LandMark Resort Hotel for the past three years. I love it and the children do also. It has three lazy rivers including one for toddlers, large swimming pools, and seven or eight hot tubs and most are in veiw of the lazy river to watch the children. It is very affordable and unique from any other place in Myrtle Beach.

A note of Caution on NMB Condos and Jack & Marilyn Miller (proprieters?!!) . They are extremely unscrupulous business people. Make sure that you do not part with your money and have everything on refund policies and last dates of cancellation down in writing as their dealings have been less than friendly and helpful and business practices questionable. Also, from accounts of a fellow couple, their last stay at NMB left much to be desired. This is a submission in the interests of fellow travellers to the area. These incidents date over a period of six months since November 1998 and a pattern has emerged on this.

Stayed at the Anderson Inn from May 2 thru May 11, 1998. Could'nt wait to get out!!! Made reservations in March, sent deposit, received confirmation with the balance due on the confirmation. (We have been going to the beach for 11 years and staying at the Best Western Dayton House. Thought we would try something different. We are going back to the Dayton House next time!) When we got there they charged us almost $200 more than what was due on the confirmation! They said whoever made the reservations made a mistake and we are responsible to pay for their mistake! Imagine how we felt! We had no choice but to pay or cancel and forfeit the deposit and start looking for a room, and after driving from Ohio we were in no mood to look. We went to our room- all I can say is we have never seen such a dirty, smelly old room in all our travels. We complained the next day and they moved us to a better (ha-ha)room.(COMPLETE WITH COCKROACHES!) I could go on but it boils down to this! , DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ O N THE NET OR THEIR BROCHURES ABOUT HOW ANDERSON INN TREATS YOU WITH SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY. This was probably the WORST vacation we have experienced at the beach thanks to the Anderson Inn! DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE! I will be writing a letter to the area Chamber of Commerce lodging a complaint against them. If anyone else has had bad experience with them, I would like to here from you.

Kingston Plantation: It was not expensive and the accomadations were WONDERFUL! I live in the Washington, D.C. area and the same accommodations in my area would have been triple the cost. It is a fairly new establishment with a terrific health club that included a sauna, tennis courts, aerobic classes, nautilus equipment, racquetball, etc. The grounds are gorgeous and the staff was friendly and helpful. It's also quiet. I would recommend either the villas or the townhomes. Neither are oceanfront, but they are both in walking distance of the ocean and would afford its' occupants some privacy. They also come with all the conveniences of home with a washer/dryer, full kitchen, etc. They are also wonderful if you are traveling with a group of people like I was because they have 2-3 bedrooms. They are also decorated very, very nice. It is a 4-5 star quality establishment.

For the last 4 years we have stayed atTilghman Lakes in N orth Myrtle Beach. This codominium project has everything you need.It is across the street from the beach with The Surf Golf course behind the condos. They have 2 bed- rooms,2baths,and a nice swimming pool with a hot tub. We stay in unit M-1 which has 3TV,s and a VCR. The beach here is very wide and you are close to many restaurants and golf courses. It is a great place to take a family as the condos are very big inside. It is located on 1801 North Ocean Boulevard and can be rented by calling Joseph Mcmillan Reality at 1-800-248-1481. 5/5/98

I have stayed at Coral Beach on two business trips and have found the hotel to be not only an exceptional value but a great experience. The staff has always been friendly and efficient at check-in & check-out and the security guards could be seen cruising the parking deck with regularity. I have rented the executive suite both visits and they have always been clean & stocked with plenty of towels. The on-site restaurant serves a fried shrimp dinner that was better than my last two trips to Murrell's Inlet. Coral Beach does a great job with every aspect of their hotel and I look forward to going back. P.S. Your link to the hotel is wrong. I think the URL has changed.

May 5, 1998 We haven't been to MB yet but I wanted to comment on my experience with Sea Mist Resort with regards to reservations. I saw a Family Package special for $550 on the web and contacted Sea Mist to confirm the info. I was told that the rate is only for rooms and not suites. We're looking for a 2 room efficiency or suite since we have 2 small children. The person I spoke with advised me that for an extra $125, she will give me the family package. I said I'd call back as I wanted to share this info with my husband. I ended up calling back the next day to make the reservation but the person I spoke with said that they cannot give me a suite for the $550 family package even with the $125 that I was told earlier. At any rate, I just want to comment that Sea Mist needs to train their employees to give out correct information. I'm also wondering if had I jumped on the $550 special plus $125 for a suite the first time I called, would we have been told differently when we arrived. Anyway, I'll continue to surf the net for info on accomodations and we're looking forward to our July vacation at MB!

CROWN REEF - April 1998. Very nice hotel. Appeared to be one of the nicer places in South Mrytle Beach. We really enjoyed the 20 swimming pools, saunas and lazy river. Rooms were better than average, ours had a small kitchen. Very reasonable breakfast and lunch specials. Enjoyed eating at the NASCAR Cafe and really enjoyed the Medievil Times dinner and show.

My wife and I are planning another trip to Myrtle Beach this August 1998. This a GREAT PLACE for a vacation. Some of our favorite spots are The Hard Rock Cafe, IMAX theater, Ripley's Aquarium (This is awesome!), gift shops at Broadway at the Beach, and of course the unlimited number of minature putt putt. The places that did not impress us much are Barefoot Landing (shops are real expensive), Planet Hollywood ( the food stunk), and Bennet's Calabash. We stayed at the Caravell Resort our first year and it was great but a little pricey for our budget. Our previous visit we stayed at the Capri Court which was so so. It smelled of cigarettes, the parking was a hassle, and it had a unusual driveway that went beside the lawn area. We are planning to stay at the Roxanne Motel or the Poindexter this year. I would appreciate any experiences or recommendations for these motels or any other motel that is reasonably priced and CLEAN!! PLEASE E-MAIL ME

I have been going to Myrtle Beach since I was 12 (I am 18 now) and I love it. We always stay at the Apache Campground. Many of you resort stayers and condo renters would be surprised at the cleanliness of this campground. You can bring your own camper or rent one of theirs. The staff is very nice and always willing to help. There is a Trading Post, a clean pool, a park, an arcade and a clean laundry room. We cannot forget the Apache Pier, the longest pier on the east coast. With live bands, fishing, linedancing and a restauraunt, who could resist? See you in July! 4/16/98

This year we will be going in AUG 15 - 22 1998. WE love the shopping places such as Barefoot Landing and BROADWAY AT THE BEACH. SOME other places we have stayed our Pelicans Landing and The Place at the Beach. WE LOVE IT IN MYRTLE BEACH.

We have been going to MB for about 7 years for dance competitions. We are confined by the competition dates ----- around the July 4th holidays so we are in peak season. We have about 40 families going and we can't seem to negotiate discounted prices for this volume.
We now book at two or three locations depending on the family's requirements ( ie 1 or 2 bedroom, ocean front, etc). The competition is at the Convention centre, so we don't want to be too far away for travelling ( especially during cruising times when the highways are at gridlock). We used to stay at the Patricia Grand ----but last year we were so disappointed. The place has gone downhill ----they have not kept it up, the restaurant is pathetic and the prices keep going up and up.
Some stay at Ocean Creek but that is too far out for some ---and they prefer a location on the beach and closer to the Strand action ( for their teenage children). Any suggestions????

We like your site, but we were wondering could you please add the Rockin K Motel to your listings? This has been our favorite motel to stay in. The managers, R.C. McCord, and Buddy Kidd, are the nicest people. They interact with all their guests and the children. The provide the cleanest rooms, singles and efficiencies at vary reasonable rates. We have stayed there every summer for the past 5 1/2 years. We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else if we dont have to. They are located at 1619 South Ocean Boulevard, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582. Telephone #'s are: (843) 272-8231 and Toll Free 1-800-477-8231. By far this is the best place to stay. Inground pool, parking and beach front. Absolutely beautiful and its only 14 miles from the pavilion but without alot of traffic. Highly recommend this motel to anyone. Polynesian Resort- we stayed there two years ago and had a wonderful experience. Great facilities and excellent beach location. It certainly is not "plush" but definately suits vacation needs. Very clean. Great pools (indoor and outdoor), whirlpools, etc. Was also great having an on-site laundry facility. We're headed back to the Polynesian this July and couldn't be happier. Try and get a room on one of the upper floors (8-9) for a great view!

When I did see something I was excited about..there were no phone numbers/addresses to contact. For example a reader would say they stayed at a certain condo, got great service and would go there again, etc. But then there was no contact # s...so I'm left searching the web. Maybe you could ask readers/consumers to add addresses/phone #s of the places they make comments about. thanks for listening, Kathleen

I recently had an experience I'd like to share with your readers. I had made reservation with Grand Strand Vacations for a last minute condo on the ocean for easter vacation. Let me first say that these folks were the most pleasant and accomodating of the realty services I talked with. When they couldn't get me in the condo I wanted (which I didn't really expect being we're so close to easter vacation) they did their best to find me a condo close to my original choice and at a reasonable price). When I had to cancel due to my chemotherapy being scheduled for that week (I have Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma) They were very understanding and gave me an excellent refund on my $200 deposit. They derserve my future business and anyone else that's looking for a place in Myrtle Beach. By the way, my cancelled condo is up for grabs...ocean front for 4-11-98 thru 4-18-98 @ a price you'll be pleased with. give them a call 1-800722-6278 or e mail gsrealty@sccoast.net (even their phone # is toll free, which many others are not) very nice folks!! thanks for listening, Kathleen

Our family is looking to return to Myrtle Beach this spring (we have missed it the last few years). We have always stayed at OCEAN CREEK and would like to make accommodations for Ocean Creek again for 7 nights commencing Apr.11/98. Ocean Creek is the altimate for a family vacation! The 2 oceanfront condo towers are great! One has an indoor/outdoor pool and they both have excellent suites including washer/dryer facilities and include everything you could ask for. It could be better now but when we stayed there 3 years ago I found a roach crawling in the kitchen cabinet! We immediately requested to be moved to another room. No bugs in this one but certainly not clean. There were Doritos under the bed which stayed there the length of our stay. However we felt we needed some time to ourselves so we live pretty close to MB (in charleston,sc) so we decided to take a quick trip down for the weekend as a sorta 2nd honeymoon getaway. We stayed at the Yachtsman! What a view! We were on the 20th floor oceanfront! We bought shrimp at the local seafood market and cooked it right in our room! The room was all windows! We sat at our table eating our shrimp dinner and drinking wine watching the birds fly around outside the room. It seemed you cld reach out and touch them! We sat on the balcony and watched the sun come up in the morning. We were so high up we could see forever out in the ocean! The room had a great kitchen area, 1 bedroom and a jacuzzi! We did nt leave our room all weekend! We stocked up on groceries and spent real time together! I would insist on anyone having this experience to strengthen you realationship. A friend recently got married and she spent her honeymoon in the same room we did.(not with us) She still talks about it all the time! It is a true getaway!

Recently we had a marvelous GOLF extraviganza with eight (8) of us that work together. We trusted Helms Vista Motel (part of seaside properties) with our accommodations and reservations (we know them as tee times!). Our vacation was flawless! We had great accommodations, we also requested both AM and PM tee times with various premium and non premium golf courses. The one stop communications with Helms Vista Motel staff worked out extremely well for us. All of the courses were expecting us, we had one person hand in our voucher for the golf (with carts) and we had zero problems with the arrangements. All of the courses were expecting us and welcomed us! There were no surprise costs! The people at Helms Vista Motel were also very nice people with which to interact! I am sure we will have them help us enjoy other vacations to the Myrtle Beach area for a golfing vacation in the future! -Dave-

My kids(ages 11,7,and 3) have a blast and if given a choice (Myrtle Beach or Disney) they always choose Myrtle Beach! I know that may be hard to believe but its true. They love the miniature golf, the waterparks, the go-kart parks, the beaches and the pools at the hotels. They also love the souvinear shopping at Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landings. We like all the choices to eat and all the price ranges also , we find that with a family of 5 this can be a very inexpensive vacation for us. We are staying at the Long Bay Resort this year for the first time. We are getting an ocean front suite for 105 a night plus 10% off for a 7 night stay. It was just rebuilt last year so everything should be fairly new and we can't wait to try it out. As usual my husband and my son and the grandparents will be golfing also. We are already trying to decide what to pack and are eagerly anticipating our trip. submitted by Amy Webber (golfwebb@aol.com)

Went to Myrtle Beach first week of June of 1997--very, very rainy and cold. We stayed at Shoreham Towers thru Advantage Vacations,at North Myrtle Beach, the room was not clean, had to wait about 2-3 hours before someone came to clean room. Had a three bedroom condo and paid enough money, can't say I would ever there stay again. No security in parking lot. After room was finally clean, had trouble with dishwasher, sinks, and tubs--had to call to have someone come and unclog them. We are planning to go back this year 1998, but would like info on Flagship Inn, seems to be small motel, (from the brochure)but looks very clean--am I being deceived?? If anyone has experience with this motel in Myrtle beach area, please let me know. I do not want to have a second bad experience with rooms. Anyone with experience with Flagship Inn, please let us know. We are not looking for anything fancy, but would appreciate clean. THANKS!!!!

My family and I are planning to go to North Myrtle this summer and would be interested in any comments anyone may have regarding Condotels in North Myrtle or Surfside Beach and also Carolina Reef Condos owned by Mercedes Properties in North Myrtle. We have brochures from both of these and are considering making reservations in the next couple of days. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I chose to vote this way for two different reasons. When I moved down here to Myrtle Beach, we stayed at the Landmark Resort Hotel while we were here and found it to be outstanding. It was a very stressful time for us trying to find a place to live and the staff here was extremely helpful in helping us relieve that stress by getting us into the townhouse we are liviving. As fate would have it I am now working at the Landmark Resort hotel because of not only of my ability, but the references I received from my future co-workers. I am now in a career that is more fullfilling, less stressfull and overall fun to wake up and going to. Life doesn't get anybetter than this. Keep in mind I was a paramedic, Saving lives was the biggest high I could get, besides delivering a babies, but now, I get as much satifaction out of making sure people are getting exactly what they asked for when they made their reservations and if they got some defficientcies, it's my job to rectify those problems. People remember you alot more for that, they do. So Look up the Landmark Resort Hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC. internet address is: Http://www.landmarkresort.com Will be glad to hear from ya! My husband and I went to Mrytle Beach for our honeymoon 4 years ago and we stayed in Murrells Inlet in the Brookwood Inn. It was so nice to be so close to Mrytle Beach but yet far enough away from all the traffic and noise. The Inn was very family oriented and it had a nice swimming pool.

Pelican's Landing and Pelican's Watch are Condos in North Myrtle Beach: I have been to this condo a number of times and have found it to be relaxing and enjoyable. This complex seems to be in the middle of everything. I hope you will add this to your list of condos. I am sure whoever stays there will find it to be a pleasurable, worthwhile, and enjoyable experience.

March 3, 1998 Places to stay while in Myrtle Beach- The Hampton Inn at Northwood is nice, reasonable, and clean. It offers a continental breakfast and has free cable and the second and third person in the room stays free!
Places to go- Broadway at the Beach is a must! It offers an IMAX theatre, Ripley's Sea Aquarium, unique shops, and many, many interesting places to eat such as the Nascar Cafe. Planet Hollywood is nice. Myrtle Waves Water Park is very fun, and so is the Pavillion, an amusement park with a large roller coaster. It offers many places to eat and many things to do.
Food- I ate at the Olive Garden on N.King's Hwy and it is very clean and a good place to eat. Also Calabash's seafood is awesome with an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. There are many fast food places such as Burger King and Arbys.
Shopping- BROADWAY AT THE BEACH! Briarcliffe Mall Barefoot Landing and more....
So if you are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach soon make sure that you plan ahead and have a fantastic time!

March 3, 1998 I just returned from Myrtle Beach recently and I had the greatest time there with friends from school! We decided that we needed a new place to go, so we decided why not a place with many different things to do, a good beach, and many, many compliments? And so we did- I convinced my teacher that it was time to take a trip! We left from Florida around 8:00 in the morning and went on I-95 all the way up to South Carolina. Make sure that you stop and get some breakfast at Waffle House or Cracker Barrel. The stop in Brunswick and Jessup, Georgia (7A, US 25 and 341) is a great stop for breakfast and dinner. They offer a nice, clean Cracker Barrel and IHOP restaurant. There is a Howard Johnson's (make sure to stop there for ice cream because their flavors are the best), a Shoney's, a Quincys Family Restaurant, and many more places to eat. Entering South Carolina is good- we got to Myrtle Beach at around 8:30 PM and stayed at the Hampton Inn at Northwood. What a nice hotel- it offers a continental breakfast and has a clean area for swimming. You also get free HBO and local calls- CHILDREN 18 OR YOUNGER STAY FREE! (And THAT was a miracle- we're all 16 and 17!) Broadway at the Beach is a must because it offers EVERYTHING! It has an IMAX theatre offering a show every hour, a Ripley's Sea Aquarium with so much to offer, and some of the greatest places to eat such as the Nascar Cafe and Planet Hollywood. The Hard Rock Cafe is not as nice as the other two- the food seemed to be not well prepared at the time and our waitor was rude- also lines there are too long. I do like their gift shop, though. Briarcliffe Mall is alright- it has a Belk,K-Mart, JC Penney's, a Limited, and more. The Pavillion is major fun- it offers a roller coaster!! For good dining on North King's Highway, try the Olive Garden or Garcia's Mexican Restaurant- the food there is delicious! Also try Medieval Times- it has great chicken! Magic On Ice is very good. I'm going back here again! Good luck on your next trip!

Myrtle Beach is where I grew up, and I sure do miss it! I now live in Kansas. Anyway, if your interested in nice inexpensive hotels, I recommend the Sea Dip. It is located on the ocean across from Myrtle Square Mall, and just minutes away from Barefoot Landing and Restaurant Row (that's what we call North Myrtle Beach's Grand Strand). As far as the nightlife goes, I suggest going to 2001, located in North Myrtle. There are 3 different dance floors, and the club spotlights women! The owners know that wherever there is women, there are bound to men right on their heels! So, if your single, head to 2001! The Headroom is a wonder- ful placeto go for the younger of-age drinkers. They feature some top name artists, and local talents too. The two story dance club is where you go to pppppaaaaarrrrrrttttttyyyyyy! Not to mention, their black lights will make you go blind! If you love to eat good seafood and steak, Knickerbockers On The Water in Barefoot Landing is wonderful and inexpensive! Just tell them Tina sent you! Maybe they'll give you a discount!!! Last but not least, if you're in the mood for a good show with dinner, the Dixie Stampede is the place to go! I worked there as a saloon girl, and boy was it fun! They start you off with a wonderful saloon show, then move you into the arena for an exciting horseback rivalery b/w the North and the South! Not to mention you have to eat with your hands! Hope I have been of help to some of you first timers! Have a good time!

Tropical Winds: We made reservations Winter of 97 for our summer vacation in Myrtle Beach. We thought the Tropical Winds seemed moderately priced and the location appeared good. To our surprise when we arrived, the place was a total mess. The smell was unbearable and the place needed a total renovation. Needless to say, we will not return to Tropical Winds.

Our family has not yet travelled to Myrtle Beach, BUT we have already encountered problems booking accommodations with one hotel in particular...The staff at the Surf and Dunes obviously do not enjoy their jobs as they seem to care less if their guests (to be) are happy. We originally booked accom for 4adults-3kids, and were gvn a resrv#, when I called back ltr the sm day with my cr crd info, I was tld there was no resrvn in my name. Aftr a long discussion, it turned out the rep did make our resrv but accidentally put anthr guests' name on it...it was corrected, but no appology offerd--after all "it was a computer error". Two weeks later I called back to inqure if we cld make a sml change in our resrvn.."yep" was the respnse...but again they cldnt find my reservation as they spelled the name wrong, but it wasn't their fault, I must have spelled my own name wrong to beging with!!...After speaking to the very friendly people at The Sea Dip, my family decided we would be more comfortable there...when I called to cancell with Surf'n Dunces(dunes) they advised me I would hv to pay a $15 (non)service charge, for what service?..when I advised the rep of the lack of professionalism in a cust serv industry, she simply repeated hotel policy..AND NOT ONE SORRY FOR THE INCONVIENCE was uttered...If they keep treating people this way, they'll soon find themselves playing alot of solitaire!!!! My family and I have benn to Myrtle Beach on vacation for the past two years, and we will be returning again this summer. We stay at the Tilghman Beach and Raquet Club in North Myrtle Beach. Very nice 3 bedroom condo on the beach. My children ages 12 and 16 love it. There is so much to do for children and adults alike. My favorite is the Medieval Times. Great entertainment for the children. We usually vacation in June and the weather has always been great. Best restaurant for us is "Benjamins". Great family vacation sport.

The Inn: We vacation at Myrtle Beach yearly, and have stayed at several locations. After we found the Inn we have never stayed anywhere else. We love the convenience, and location of the Inn. We always get a room on the first floor ---this is great, especially if you have children. You can step out the sliding glass door, and your on the beach. No carrying tons of things for the kids on, and off elevators, up, and down stairs. My family loves The Inn.

You will love it and you will hate to leave. Right by the ocean. We stay in my uncles condo there which is on the8th floor and a butiful view on the baclony. Only problem for me is that he is selling it for $150,200. and I don't have enough money to buy it. 2/10/98

Mrytle Beach is great!! My husband and I, and all of our kids have been coming there for the last 9 years. Started in 1989, it was our honeymoon, with our kids!! Now all of our kids are grown up, and some have family's of their own, and now, we all go, kids, and grandkids. We always find something to do, but our favorite thing is being on the beach, playing volleyball, or some sort of game, whatever we come up with, and soaking up the rays, swimming, and going to Ocean Annies. And of course, drinking lots of beer!! We will be there 6/6/98 untill 6/13/98. We have always rented a condo from Chicora Rentals, and have always been happy with them. SEE YA IN JUNE!!:):)

We have visited Myrtle Beach for 3 years now. We first stayed at the Caravelle. It is fine but do not stay on the seventh floor by the hot tub. Parties all night long. We also stayed at the Captain's Quarters. The room was very nice but the rest of the hotel was a little run down. We like the Crown Reef the best of the 3. The hotel is beautiful and it is removed from downtown somewhat. The breakfast prices and lunch prices are unbelievably cheap and the food is good. There is a Damon's on the ocean right beside it and a pier is close by. A putt putt par 3 is right across the street. We would definitely stay there again.

Wife and I just returned from our 5th trip in 2+ years. These are a few of our faves.....
Heathland @ The Legends - in the most immaculate shape ever
Marsh Harbour - Older serene and beautiful
Caledonia - Newer Serene and an incredible design
The Pearl - Either course is a treat (East/West)
Moorland @ The Legends - PGA West of the East
Heritage - Challenging and Long
One to avoid is : Bay Tree Plantation - We had a horrible experience at this place.
Midway Deli (near 75th in a strip mall behind a bank) is a dynamite New York style Deli for a sandwich. If you go here please tell Jack the couple from Atlanta said hello! Carolina Roadhouse has a great salad and prime rib. We enjoyed this last trip at the Caravelle Resort.

My family and I just visited Myrtle Beach for the first time. We spent three days which included New Years Day. It's a beautiful and wonderful place to visit and we intend to go back many times in the future. I only had one unpleasant incident and that was at the place we stayed, Blue Water Resort. Several weeks prior to our trip, I called and made reservations and was assured that I had a water-front room reserved for three nights including New Years Eve. When I arrived I was informed that I had reservations for only two nights, which exluded New Years Eve. No confirmation statement had been sent out to me. The manager, Mr. Gorey, was rude with an attitude of not caring at all. He offered me a side room which I had no choice but to accept at the same price as the water-front rooms. Talking to other vacationing residents, I learned that not many were pleased with the resort. They cited various reasons including poor service. I would not recommend Blue Water Resort as a place to stay. Next time, we intend to stay at one of the many other resorts, never at Blue Water Resort.

We stayed at the Palace Resort in a Sun Room/Ocean View and loved every minute. My only complaint was not enough elevators, and we were on the 14th floor. Other than that our stay was wonderful. And we weren't seeing that through Rose Colored Glasses. We think Mrytle is tops, and plan to go back again this year.

Captains Quarters gives you the feeling they want you there and appreciate your business. The rooms are very roomy and the rules about in room after 11pm makes the vacation more enjoyalbe to those that have kids and are not interested in drinking and partying all night. I have stayed at places where I got no rest because of drunks and people who sleep all day to party all night. Doesn't make our vacation very enjoyable .I have stayed at thisd hotel now twice and will probley stay again. The covered lazy river helps to keep the kids from getting sun burnt and the atmosphere is great.

My husband and I were at Myrtle Beach during the week of July 4, 1997. We stayed at Carevelle Resorts (St. Clementine). We thought that it was a little over-priced for the room that we got. The room was clean but it was rather small. The Hotel is a round building and the room that we got was supposed to be oceanfront, I considered it to be more oceanview. The main thing that I didn't like was the fact that you had to walk next door to the main building for anything that you wanted such as ice, towels, washing machines. etc... I did not like that, considering that I am sure that we were paying just as much as the people in the main building. We are planning on going back this July, and considering renting a 2-3 bedroom condo in either Surfside or Garden City. Any Suggestions on some nice ones??? We have a cocker spaniel that we would really like to take with us, but have not been able to find anywhere that will take pets. If anyone knows of anyplace, please let me know.

We visited Myrtle Beach for the first time the first week of October. The weather couldn't have been nicer. We stayed at the Beach Cove Resort in North Myrtle Beach as recommended by the travelogue. I would definitely stay there again. We had a 2 bedroom unit with a livingroom and sleeper sofa. All the rooms are ocean front with a balcony. The kitchen had a microwave, and dishwasher with plenty of dishes. We even had a washer and dryer. My son-in-law requested extra pillows and they brought them in a few minutes. The beach was great. I have many fond memories of Myrtle Beach and I would tell everyone who asked about it that it is a very relaxing place the just kick back and have some fun!!!!!!!! If you go you have to visit the new Sea Aquarium at Broadway At The Beach! It was great! We also went to see Legends in Concert which had famous singer impersonators. That was a good show, very entertaining. We ate at Dicks Last Resort and had a wild time and also visit the House of Blues, great food and a very nice place for entertainment. Love MB, can't wait to return next year! Linda

Just returned from a week in M.B. Stayed at Coral Beach Resort - very satisfied, especially enjoyed oceanfront bar, grill and d.j. Loved Broadway at the Beach. Fireworks on Tuesday nights - spectacular. Husband and son golfed M.B. National, (King's North), Arrowhead, Wacashaw (sp?) and Oyster Bay - they enjoyed all of them. Restaurants - Carolina Roadhouse - great, Dick's Last Resort - very entertaining. We really enjoyed ourselves and plan to return next year! Email me for any tips. Pins 718@aol.com

Family just returned from M.B. (August 1997). Stayed at Coral Beach Resort. We loved it! The bar, d.j. and grill (oceanfront) were a great addition. Broadway at the Beach was fantastic. Restaurants were all good. Carolina Roadhouse is recommended - good steaks. The beach was really nice by the Coral Beach Resort. No complaints - we're going back next year!

MY FAMILY AND I JUST RETURNED FROM MYRTLE BEACH, FOR THE FIRST TIME AND LOVED IT. WE ARE PLANNING TO BUY A TIMESHARE AT THE SANDS OCEAN CLUB OR SANDS BEACH CLUB. WE STAYED AT THE FOREST DUNES RESORT, WHICH WAS A NICE PLACE AND VERY SPACIOUS ONE BEDROOM CONDO. NOT A LARGE PROPERTY, 2 POOLS A LAZY RIVER. A SMALL CAFE STYLE EATERY, BEACH IS ACROSS THE STREET, AND GREAT VIEW OF THE OCEAN FROM YOUR BALCONY!!. BROADWAY AT THE BEACH IS TERRIFIC, AND THE MINATURE GOLF COURSES ARE GREAT. WE WILL BE RETURNING NEXT YEAR SAME TIME!!!!

Just returned from our second annual (hopefully of many) trip to the Myrtle Beach area. Beginning last year, we started an annual week to Garden City, where we rented a beach house along with my brother's family, my sister's family, and our Dad. In reality, my husband have been to Myrtle many times in years past, but we always camped in our pop-up. Since my sister's family does not camp, and most of our favorite camping spots have given way to high-rises (boo!), we opted for the tranquil beach of Garden City, where at 2 miles south of the pier, the beach is wonderfully deserted, pristine and private. With Murrell's Inlet to the south, seafood is plentiful for those who choose to cook up their favorites. Sharing the rent between four families makes the price very attractive. Sharing cooking duties makes mealtime fun as opposed to a chore, and all of the kids has a ball! Adults took the bedrooms, while the kids preferred to camp out together in the great room, in their sleeping bags. The beach house had two enclosed showers downstairs, which was great! The body surfing was a blast for all, from the youngest (at 6 years old) to the oldest (at 73 years old). Wish we could have stayed longer!!!

My family and I just returned from Myrtle Beach 7-12-97. For the past ten years when visiting Myrtle Beach, we have stayed in the same resort-THE MYRTLE BEACH RESORT. This resort is excellent. With six pools, saunas, a gift shop, deli, convenience store, and oceanfront bar and grill, you couldn't ask for anything more. While in Myrtle Beach, I strongly suggest eating at SOUTHERN SUPPERS and THE GHOST SHIP. I also suggest visiting BROADWAY AT THE BEACH and BAREFOOT LANDING. These shopping areas are excellent and beautiful. My family and I can't wait to get back to Myrtle Beach next year!

We are leaving for Myrtle Beach in 6 days and will be staying at the Sand Dunes for 7 nights. This will be my 12th ? time going down and I am as excited about going this time as I was the first time I went. We plan on visiting Broadway at the Beach , the water slides, the go-kart park and eating out every night. Sand Dunes offers free summer golf and my dad, husband and oldest son will be going out every day. I plan on sitting on the beach all day or by the pool. Maybe we'll take a day trip to Charleston also. We plan on going to Texans for dinner one night and possibly Dixie Stampede. The Sand Dunes has a kids program that I plan to encourage them to participate in at least 1 or 2 days and we''ll be sharing a 2br oceanfront suite with the grandparents. Can't wait, We'll be there soon. The Webbers golfwebb@aol.com submitted 8-13-97

I just returned from a long weekend on Myrtle Beach on 8/11. I have been to Myrtle Beach quite a few times before, as I live in North Carolina. I always enjoy going because S. Carolina has happy hour, gambling, and great beaches. There's tons to do at Myrtle Beach. However, this time I was not able to stay in my usual hotel. I stayed at the WATERSIDE INN! Do NOT stay there! The place is overpriced and dirty. My room smelled of old sweat when I got there. Also, the maid didnt bother to show up on my first night there. One of the sheets had a cigarette burn in it and one of the washcloths had like a black grease stain on it. The bathroom ceiling was leaking as well. I had a great time when I was NOT in my room...but the accomodations were horrible. When trying to tell the desk clerk about this when I left, he wouldn't even acknowledge I was speaking to him. Bottom line...spend your money wisely and stay in North Myrtle Beach. Whatever you do...DONT stay at the Waterside Inn!!!!!

Went to Myrtle Beach for the first time on 8-3-97 until 8-10-97. We stayed at the Sea Mist Resort. Just wanted to let everyone know that it is an absolute dump. It ruined our whole vacation and left us with a bad taste for Myrtle Beach. It would take me quite a long time to write everything that was wrong with it,but if anyone wants to know particulars, feel free to e-mail me.

I have recently come back from my vacation at Myrtle Beach and would like to share my horrific experience. We were at Myrtle Beach the week of August 2 - August 10, 1997. I would like to warn anyone who might be trying to make reservations at the BEACHWALK MOTEL, 1701 S. Ocean Blvd. This place is the Bates Motel of Myrtle Beach! When I made my reservations over three months ago, I was told on the telephone that the kitchens come fully equipped so I would not need pots and pans etc. It took me two days to get pots and pans which they had to purchase. The hotel rooms are extremely run down. The first thing that I had to do when we got into our room was completely scrub and sanitize the kitchen and bath areas. They were both so filthy I was afraid to cook on the stove or take a bath! The air conditioner was hanging three inches off the wall and there was a lot of mildew in the bathroom. I don't want to ramble so I'll give a brief synopsis of our stay. The maids walked off the job so there was no room

MYRTLE BEACH WARNING........... We stayed at the Gazebo Inn July 26, 1997 to August 2, 1997. They put us in a room next door to the Gazebo Inn at the Beachwalk. We were very suprised as we thought we had reservations at the Gazebo Inn. We were charged rates for Gazbeo Inn! The room they put us in was roach infested, the smoke alarm did not have a battery as the connection was hanging out of the fixture, the kitchen was dirty, i dropped something and had to move the freezer and there was absolute filth there, they didn't change our bed sheets the whole 7 nights we were there, there were drunks running up and down the steps all night, there was one girl who keep going out to cars pulling up she looked to be selling drugs, the maid service we were promised was almost non-existence, they came late around 2:00 or 3:00 (after all the gazebo inn rooms were done) and did a half ass job while complaining the whole time they had to go out of there way to service our room. We were also told the pier was in walking distance which it was not, we were totally unsatised, as it does no good to tell anyone at the Gazebe Inn we thought maybe others would be interested in their goings ons. We thought we were going to a family motel at a family beach, but it was terrible and our family will NEVER return to myrtle beach for a vacation. tamiam38@aol.com

NEVER! NEVER! STAY AT "SURFRIDER" CONNECTED WITH "BOARDWALK". We stayed there we made reservations over the phone. We should have known better than to stay there because they had rooms at the last minute. They were kind of high and some of the areas looked kind of run down and the carpet looked shabby in the hallways and elevators. The sauna room was very small room for two people to set. You could not stretch out and relax. My room was fairly good but not what I expected it to be for the price I had to pay $740.00 for six days and no triple AAA discount unless you stay seven days. At the end of my sixth day I wanted to add that day or get triple a discount for that day and they said no way. Thats not the only thing I didn't like about the place. We were getting ready to go out and there was this awful unmis- takeble smell in the hallway. (pot) We had forgotten some- thing and went back to get it and before I could reach the door, there was a knock on my door it was the hotel manager. She ask if we smelt something funny and I said yes and she asked if she could enter our room. She looked all around the room with her eyes and made me feel real funny. Then she said there was a complaint that there was pot smell coming from our room. Well I got real upset and told her I didn't like being acused of such things that I don't and never have and she said they don't allow such things to go on in this hotel. I was never so embrassed in my life. What I think was the house keeping was doing a little of it because they were out side my door before it happened. We will never stay there again. My fiaunce and I still managed to have a good at Hard Rock cafe, deep sea fishing with Captain Dicks Fleet. We had agreat time at Medival Times a great show and dinner and everyone should go there at least one time. Great Seafood at Calabash resturants. Do not eat at a place called Plant- ation Kitchens awful and expensive. There is a show for people who like "Elvis" Its called Eddie Miles Theather and he is great. He looks, sounds, and acts like Elvis to the point you would think it was his twin. Well I just wanted to share a few of the good and the bad experiences. Next time I will stay some where a lot nicer and make reservations a head of time.

My family and I have been visiting Myrtle Beach for several years. We have stayed in a different motel almost every year. We have not found one that we were impressed with enough to say we would like to go back again. With few exceptions they have all been adequate but nothing special. We are a family of 5 with 3 children ages 5 to 15. We prefer at least a 2 bedroom efficency on the ocean front. We have stayed at the following: Boardwalk, Poindexter,Bar Harbor, Surf Rider, Sandcastle, Driftwood, and The Palms. We are staying at the Bermuda Sands this August for the first time. Anyone who could give us some suggestions or some info on the Bermuda Sands would be greatly appreciated. The Williams family-- RWILLI642@AOL.COM

My family has been traveling to Myrtle Beach since before I was born. After I got a little older we started staying at LAKEWOOD CAMPING RESORT in South Myrtle Beach on Business 17s. It's a great family campground with a ton of activities to do besides get a great tan. It is located right on the beach which is very cool for a swim anytime. If you get up early enough when the tide is out, you can collect sharks teeth! There is so much to do, I can't begin to write it all down. But if you are looking for a great FAMILY place to stay, LAKEWOOD CAMPING RESORT is excellent. Try it out for yourself! They have nice villas to stay in, and volleyball courts on the beach, indoor and outdoor pools, ampitheatre, rec center, "kid's story time" (I used to love to go!), arcade, paddle boats, and lakes to fish in throughout the campground! Enjoy!

My family just went to Myrtle Beach for our bi-annual family reunion. We were there the week of July 12th thru the 19th. We have our reunions every other year, this being our 5th reunion there. We have always stayed at The Anchorage on North Ocean Blvd. We keep returning to the same place because it is very clean, well maintained and very attractive as far as the condo units and the grounds around the Anchorage. There is a pool which is great fun for everyone and the beach is just across the street from the Anchorage. My family would recommend The Anchorage to anyone who wants to stay somewhere that feels like home. The condo's have kitchens, two bathrooms, two-three bedrooms, VCR's, sterios and many other comforts of home. Our reunions consist of about 30 people and we all keep returning to this place because we have been satisfied now every time we go. Myrtle Beach offers so much for the family to do. We used to go to Barefoot Landing, but now that theres Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing cannot compare. Don't waste your time going there. If you want to go to a very good seafood restaurant on the water that is casual, Drunken Jacks in Murrells Inlet is THE BEST! Mrytle Beach Waves water park was very expensive (60.00 for a family of four) and not worth it! There was barely anything a child under the age of 5/6 could do. If you want to see a good movie, go to the IMEX theatre at Broadway at the Beach. It offers movies that are exciting and entertaining on a very large screen that makes you feel as if you are a part of the movie. It is no ordinary movie, it is different and refreshing. We saw the movie on the Grand Canyon and that was a good one for all ages. I could not say enough about Myrtle Beach. We love it there and plan on going back in 1999 for our 6th family reunion. If you have any questions you want to ask about Myrtle Beach or The Anchorage, feel free to e-mail us and we'll respond.

We have been vacationing in Myrtle Beach for 25-30 years. Most times a week during the summer and a couple of long weekends during the fall and spring. My girls age 28 and 30 have beeg going to MB since they were toddlers and I am now taking my grandsons--ages 7 and 12-during spring break and during the summer. We vacationed the week of June 1-7 and this was first time in all these years weather was bad, but we still enjoyed other things besides the beach. The music theaters, minature golf, movie theaters, Broadway at the Beach, shopping, and great food. The Carolina Roadhouse was very good. First time we had eaten there. There salads with House Dressing are great. Also, there filet mignon. We own a timeshare at the Yachtman's and have been very pleased with it. We know what to expect in our unit and are not disappointed as it sometimes happens when you just pick a motel. Would like to hear from anyone about good places to eat.

My husband and his family has been vacationing in MB for the past 28? years. I started going with them 5 years ago. I never knew a vacation till then. This time we stayed at the Patricia North. it was a nice hotel. We usually stay at the Sea Horn. Not much to look at from the outside, but a nice place to stay. Very clean. Southern Suppers is the best place to eat for buffett. We go pracitically every night. To everyone that will be going soon...Have fun and take me with you!!!!

Hi, Jsut got back from spending the 4th of July week at Myrtle Beach and had a blast. The best part of the trip was our stay at the Beach Cove. Although it can be a little pricey, it is well worth it. They even had a big 4th of July bash around the pool all day, complete with d.j. We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo and had more than enough room. All rooms are oceanfront and have complete access to over 8 pools, lazy river and sauna. They also have activities ranging from a "big daddy splash contest" to crab and duck races for the whole family to enjoy daily. The staff was also very friendly. We made our nightly trips to Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing but plan on relaxing for a few nights and enjoying our motel more next year. We are shooting for the 4th again next year and plan on staying at the Beach Cove again. Fat Tuesdays looked like fun at Broadway at the Beach but didn't get to try it this year. Anybody have any news on this place? Best of luck and have fun to all of you lucky enough to still have vacation plans in Myrtle Beach this summer. I'll be thinking about you!!

Just returned from MB. Had a nice time and the weather was beautiful. However, we stayed at the Hilton Ocean Golf Resort and found it to be quite over priced for the services and atmosphere. It was an average hotel at above average rates (nearly $200 per night/dbl occy). The pool area was small, the rooms average and the AC system sounded like a car idling. The B'fast buffet that was poolside offered nothing that could not have been purchased at a 7-11 for less money. For a nice dinner, try New York Prime or Thoroughbreds. We also had a great time at Dick's Last Resort (not for the shy or faint hearted).

BEWARE!!! We made reservations in June for the week of July 5th through July 10th at the new OCEAN DRIVE BEACH & GOLF RESORT in North Myrtle Beach. We were told that this new hotel had an indoor and outdoor pools, childrens pool, sauna, hot tub, lazy river, weight room, and a laundry room. HOWEVER, when we arrived after traveling 1400 miles, we were surprised and disappointed to find that this hotel WAS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!! Not only was it still being worked on, but the construction workers started working at 7:00 A.M. FURTHERMORE, the lazy river wasn't even finished, the hot tub, sauna, weight room, and laundry room wasn't even open. (Not to mention that there was still NO PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE 12TH FLOOR due to it wasn't finished either. There were MANY problems with the 3 elevators. They weren't just slow, there were many times that two of the 3 elevators weren't working. And when you were lucky enough to have more than 1 working, the construction workers kept holding them up due to their need to move from floor to floor. Not to mention that one day a housekeeper came to our room, while we were still sleeping, and ordered us out of our room in 30 minutes!!! We complained to the head housekeeper and we were told that since she was 68 yrs. old, we should try to over- look her behavior. When we checked out on the last day, we inquired about some kind of discount on the rate, CONSIDERING THAT MOST OF THE FACILITIES WEREN'T OPENED, but they simply told us that they would give us a discount on our NEXT visit! Our thoughts on that one? "WHAT NEXT VISIT?!" So before anyone makes a reservation at OCEAN DRIVE RESORT, be very careful of what they tell you! ASK THEM IF ALL THEIR FACILITIES ARE OPERATING!!! Otherwise, they will simply tell you that they have these facilities there, not letting you know the truth of the matter! THEY'RE THERE...YOU JUST CAN'T USE THEM BECAUSE THEY AREN'T FINISHED!!! We hope this helps someone else from experiencing what we did. Rumor was that it wouldn't be totally finished for at least another 90 days. (By the way, 2 days before we left, they were STILL telling incoming patrons that the lazy river would be opened by Friday. FYI we left on Friday and they were still working on the lazy river!!!)

We ate at Texans. It was wonderful. The ribs and steaks were delicious. Also we ate at River City Cafe. The burgers were delicious. Our kids liked the baskets of peanuts and that you could throw your shells on the floor. We drove to Calabash N.C. one night for supper and ate at Calahan's Cala bash. It was well worth the drive...Great seafood. We all enjoyed Broadway at the Beach. Good shops, IMAX, and the new Ripley's Aquarium(kids enjoyed alot). Don't waste your time at Barefoot Landing , go to Broadway at the beach. Also, coming soon to Myrtle, a minor league Atlanta Braves team which will be located across from Broadway at the beach.

Just returned from a trip to Myrtle Beach June 15 and had a great time! This was only my second trip there, and I'm looking forward to the next. We stayed at the Patricia Grand - nice place, with lots of amenities, but the room was a bit small, and the elevator service left a lot to be desired. Also stayed at Tropical Winds on the previous trip, which offered a great view, though not quite as posh as Patricia Grand. On our next trip, we would like to find a nice place with a kitchette at an affordable price for July. Fun-loving 24 yr. old couple who would like to stay close to the Pavilion, Boardwalk at the Beach, and be OCEANFRONT. We have been looking into The Yachtsman Resort, Swamp Fox, and The Palace, among others. Any suggestions and ROOM RATES would be greatly appreciated, or would it be easier to rent a condo? Our next trip is planned for 3 nights, 4 days. ASAP!! Thanks!

We first visited MB on our honeymoon in Dec of 88. Since then we visit at least once a year and try for twice. We love it and hope to retire there. We have stayed at the Kingston Plantations in NMB, (loved it), Coral Beach, Crown Reef, and Waters Edge Resort. For the honeymoon, Kingston was the best, BUT, for just enjoying MB, Waters Edge is SUPER. The rooms are huge, clean, very well furnished and the staff is great!!! Our usual trip in May had to be be canceled this year so we are looking forward to our September trip. Favorite resturaunts include the Alabama Grill and Carolina Roadhouse. We just returned from a great week at the Patricia North and are planning a visit for a long weekend in late July, 1997. We will not need the indoor facilities and are therefore looking for a smaller, quieter, and less pricey alternative. We welcome your suggestions and comments! We just came back from Myrtle Beach (June 1-6). First time for us - husband and teenage son golfed 36 holes each day. They played everything from Gator Hole to Traditions. They enjoyed them all. Moorland was their #1 spot. Make sure you golf that course. We stayed at the Sands Beach Club - a great all-suite resort - nice rooms and amenities. We ate at several places - River City Cafe, Longhorn Steak House, Gabby's Steak House (wonderful margaritas), Dick's Last Resort - no complaints on any of them. The weather could have cooperated more. My daughter and I were planning on walking and enjoying the beach. Not so. Maybe next year. We do plan on going back. Till then.

I am new at using the internet, I sent a letter on 6/5/97 and it put "Anonymous" for the name, no wonder I didn't here back from anyone. So lets try it again. We have visited Myrtle Beach for the last 3 years. First year we stayed at the Bluewater Resort (I felt this was run down.) The next year we stayed in the new suites at the Dayton House which were very nice but the owner was a pain. Last year we stayed at the Coral Beach ( for as much as we spent a night we felt it should have been nicer, plus every other hotel in MB that I have contacted have gone out of their way to help me but this Coral Beach, they act like you are bothering them or something. So this year we thought we would stay at the Crown Reef or Captains Quarters. Does anyone have any information about these two hotels, whether they are nice or not? Also our favorite restaurant is Drunken Jacks at Merrills Inlet.

Hey gang. I just got back from MB stayed 6/1-6/5. Yea, during "senior week"..I am a Mom with 8 yr old kid. The teens were not bad, the security was excellent on the beach, however still a lot of rowdiness. Did extensive research on the net for this trip. Just a few disappointments... Stayed at Landmark Resort. This place is great, had a 2 room oceanfront suite, pool area is #1, however...the pre-teens need to be chaparoned a bit better. They seemed to take over the place and hotel security didn't do much about it. One HUGE DOWNER was our rental car was KEYED in the worst way, still waiting for damages bill. Hotel will not be responsible, was parked in parking garage which was SuPPOSED to have security. Had to file police report and such. Second downer was Ripley's Sea Aquarium was not open yet. Broadway at the Beach was great tho. Took a "cruise" @ $12 a person..what a waste of money... no sunshine either..spent most of the time in jean and jacket. All in all...it wasn't a total washout. Email me with any questions you may have ...I'll be happy to help and answer since I has so many computer friends help me!

I have stayed at the Sea Mist several times. This motel caters mostly to families with children. Many play areas, river rides etc. Moderate rooms, fairly clean. Some buildings are older, but if fairly good shape. Don't know their present rates but they should be in line with others. This is a large complex covering almost a full block. Their best deal is if you need a room later than 10:00 pm and willing to pay cash, a room is half price (may not be the same room you reserved for your stay). I leave home in time to get this deal and transfer to another room or other motel the next day.

Saturday, June 7, 1997 My husband(Ron)and I first visited Myrtle Beach on our honeymoon, 34 years ago (March 1963). We loved it then and still do, even though it has changed considerably. We stayed at a little place called the "Singing Surf" and have not been able to locate it since. We have been staying at The Patricia Grand for the past 5 or 6 years and try to visit at least twice a year. It's a great place, centrally located, with spacious accommodations. Now that our children are grown we love just hanging out on the beach during the day and going to places like Broadway at the Beach in the evenings. We'll be coming down next week and this time my daughter and her new husband will be coming along. My son-in-law and husband plan on hitting the golf course at Tidewater Plantation where we have recently purchased some property. Hopefully, one day we will be able to build our retirement home there and not just visit the beach but LIVE THERE!!

Myrtle Beach is one of my favorite resort areas. My husband and I have been going there for 8 years and we love the Beach Cove in North Myrtle Beach....plenty of room and all suites are ocean front. Favorite shopping...Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach. Favorite Restaurant....Damon's in Barefoot Landing---I just can't get enough of their Onion Loaf and their Ribs are out of this world! NOW, I can't wait to go. Carole

We have been to MB for the last 3 years. We have stayed at the Bluewater Resort (run down) the Dayton House which was real nice, we had one of the new suites and I really liked it, the only problem was the owner, he was not very pleasant to be around. Last year we stayed at the Coral Beach, my son loved it, I think it is geared toward teenagers. My husband and I were disappointed with the interior of the room, it had new carpet but otherwise not real nice for the money we spent. Plus when I called them this year they are not very helpful and seem a little rude to me. Does anyone know anything about the Crown Reef or Captains Quarters, I heard Captains Quarters was renovated last year. Is this true, and isn't the Crown Reef fairly new? As far as restaurants we love Drunken Jacks at Murrills Inlet. Myrtle Beach is a great place for vacation, we love it. Please let me know right away on these hotels. Thanks

I spent every summer vacation with my family in Myrtle Beach. We stayed at Pirateland family campground. Nice place if you like roughing it. Now that I am 24, I am taking my husband there for our year anniversary. He has never been to Myrtle, (he is from NYC..I am from NC) and I want him to love it as I do. We are staying at the Patricia grand. I love to eat at Dick's Last Resort, but can anyone email me and clue me in on the "hot spots" to eat and entertain? I have not been to MB for about 5-6 years. We are leaving July 24, so any information would be great! Thanks.

Every year myself, my wife and our two children go to Garden City and stay at Water's Edge Resort. We really enjoy the spacious rooms and all the comforts of home. We have been staying here for the last 5 years and plan to continue our 6th year in September. We really enjoy the area because it is a quieter atmoshpere than the "Strip" beach area; but within 10 minutes of the Grand Strand and all the highlights of the Myrtle Beach area. We recommend the late season stay, because of the nearly 50% savings after the Labor Day holiday. It is still summer weather; but the crowds are fewer. For the past 2 years we have been going with friends that have children close in ages with ours and we have found this to be an enjoyable way to spend our vacation times.

A lot of people asked about Captain's Quarters. It used to be our favorite place to stay in the 70's and early 80's. Then in the late 80's they started going downhill. The resturant at one time was pretty good for breakfast. I think now they have renovated some, and are doing better. I think we are going to try and stay there again this year.

WARNING !!! WARNING !!! WARNING !!! Recently while making vacation reservations at MB for July 97, we called a motel called the "Blue Lagoon" at 405 N. Ocean Blvd. After setting up initial reservations, the address to send the deposit to, did not coincide with the motel location. The address to send the deposit sounded familiar, so after further investigation we determined it to be an address for a motel called "Rainbow Court." located on 405 Flagg Street. This motel is on a back side street off the Blvd. where we thought we had made our reservations. After discovering this we called back and were told that the "Blue Lagoon" had been purchased by "The Rainbow Court" and our reservations were "inadvertly" placed at "The Rainbow Court." The desk clerk checked and "discovered" that he did not have a room at The Blue Lagoon after all. Was this an oversight? Possibly, however it is likely this was a variation on the old "bait and switch". We would have proceeded to MB for the week of the fourth of July thinking we were staying on the Blvd. and Lo and Behold, we would have been stuck on some side street away from the action. There would have been nothing we could have done at this time, except take what they had given us. Our suggestion is that if you are not familiar with the area, as we are, you should double check the address of the motel and the address of where they want you to send your deposit. We have been going to MB for many years and LOVE it... We do not think this is typical behavior, however there are always a few bad apples in the bunch. By the way, we cancelled our reservations for the "Blue Lagoon/Rainbow Court" and got other reservations at a very nice motel on the Blvd... We look forward to our vacation now, knowing we will be where we want to be.
