Myrtle Beach National to host 35th annual Holliday Memorial junior tournament
This year's tournament has been expanded to include three rounds of golf at Myrtle Beach National's SouthCreek, West Course and King's North courses.
The tournament will begin with a shotgun start each day at 9 a.m. More than 400 boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 18 from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico will participate in the three-day junior's tournament, which is sanctioned by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. In addition, college golf coaches from around the country will be in attendance, scouting prospective players for college golf teams.
The junior championship is held in memory of George Judson Holliday, III, of Galivants Ferry, South Carolina, who won many junior level tournaments while attending Mullins High School in South Carolina and later at the Asheville School for Boys in North Carolina. At the college level, Holliday had a 69 stroke average for 40 matches and a 1-handicap. He died in November 1967.
"We expanded this year's tournament due to years of overwhelming support and participation," said Jim Woodring, director of golf operations for the Myrtle Beach National Company. "We at Myrtle Beach National Company have always encouraged golf programs to get children involved in the game of golf; a game they can enjoy for a lifetime."
The entry fee for the George Holliday Memorial Junior Golf Tournament is $99 and includes tournament rounds, Thanksgiving evening dinner, hot dog lunch each day and a logo-ed golf cap.
