MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Aug. 27, 2003) -- World Tour Golf Links has won awards this year for being the Grand Strand’s “Best Overall Golf Course” by Myrtle Beach Golf Magazine and “Golf Course of the Year” by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association.

How can they expect to improve on that? By adding nine more holes, that’s how. Plans are in the works to expand on the current 27-hole theme of replicas of famous golf holes from around the world.

The World Tour Clubhouse“There are still a lot of behind the scenes things that need to be worked out before we pull the trigger,” said Dennis Nicholl, director of golf at World Tour Golf Links. “We have been working toward it but the additional nine holes have not even been picked out.

“But there are plans for another nine and we know where we would like to put them out there on the back of the property,” he added.

The facility has not promoted the addition of the new nine because it does not yet have a certain timeline on the beginning – or end – of construction. The likelihood is that the project will not get under way until, at earliest, sometime in 2004.

There are also plans to add condominium complexes up near the existing clubhouse. The condos would stretch down the right side of the ninth fairway of the Open Nine, which is a replica of No. 18 at St. Andrews.

“Until we know more, we just leave it as there are plans for condominiums and an additional nine,” said Nicholl. “And, for now, that’s where it stops.”
