Due to last year's tremendous award-winning success, the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and its volunteers are working hard to make Two Days 'Round the Fourth an even more exciting event with remarkable talent and show stopping fun!

Entertainment is set for this year's festival, scheduled for Friday, June 27 and Saturday, 28th. Festivalgoers of all ages will be entertained by such notables as Boys Club and a Babe, country singer Paul Grimshaw with a "Parrot Head" party, to be held on the front lawn of the historic courthouse featuring such bands as Fins Up, The Rum Punch Bandits and The Caribbean Cowboys.

Also on Friday under the Main Street Bridge, enjoy 50s doo whop music with the Del Vikings singing " Whispering Bells", "Come Go with Me" and "Share the Night. Fifties phenomena Bill Haley's Comets, featuring Al Rappa, will perform such favorites as "Rock Around the Clock", "Let the Good Times Roll" and "See Ya Later Alligator."

On Saturday, the excitement continues beginning with local favorites Mike & Mr. Too Tight and The Mullets from 3-6 p.m. Two-step into the night with up and coming country sensation Ryan Casper, singing his newest hits as well as other country favorites. Dust off your weejuns and move your feet to tunes likes "Myrtle Beach Days", "It's All in Game" and "Shakin the Shack" with the Fantastic Shakers.

Immediately following the spectacular fireworks show at 9:30, Nashville Recording Artist and Songwriter Billy Jo Royal, best known for his songs "Down in the Boondocks" "Somebody" and "Burns Like a Rocket," will perform on Stage II under the Main Street Bridge. On Stage III, located at the Historic Courthouse, enjoy the smooth soul soothing sounds of Clarence Carter, known for "Patches", "Too Weak to Fight" and jukebox favorite "Strokin".

"Two Days 'Round the Fourth" is an event of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and is free to the public. Other activities include an Arts and Crafts Show, Business Expo, free games and activities for children, train rides donated by Carolina Southern Railroad, river boat rides, a tennis classic, and special activities and entertainment for seniors; and more. LYMO will provide free shuttle service to the event from designated parking areas. New this year, free tram service throughout the festival area will be offered.

We are pleased to inform you that "Two Days 'Round the Fourth" has been designated a TOP 20 Event for June 2003 by Southeast Tourism Society. Furthermore, the South Carolina Festival & Event Association (SCFEA) recently awarded the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce two awards for "Two Days 'Round the Fourth": BEST BROCHURE for a festival with a budget over $50,000 and the GRAND SOUTH CAROLINA CONFERENCE AWARD for best festival.

50th annual Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo

The 50th annual Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo began Tuesday, April 1, and will continue through October 31. The seven-month tournament is sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and covers the entire Grand Strand. More than $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded throughout the event.

The tournament features three divisions: pier, surf and inlet, and deep-sea fishing. Trophies will be presented for outstanding catches in male, female, and youth categories in each division. Plaques will be awarded for the largest of species. These winners also will be eligible to win a $2,000 grand prize, which will be presented at an awards banquet in December.

All qualified rodeo participants will receive an official Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo decal, and official shoulder patches will be awarded monthly to anglers entering the three heaviest fish of each species in each division. Additionally, Fish-of-the-Month prizes will be awarded to anglers entering the four heaviest fish of the designated species each month.

The Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo is aimed at promoting recreational fishing throughout the Myrtle Beach area. Last year, 984 anglers from 18 states and Canada participated, with ages ranging from 6 to 86. Herb Burns of North Myrtle Beach, who won a plaque for catching the largest whiting, also won the $2,000 grand prize.

The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has stood for 62 years as the unified voice of the Grand Strand's business community. The chamber serves Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Little River, Atlantic Beach, Garden City Beach, Loris, Conway, Aynor, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach, and Pawleys Island.
