The Norman Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach, handcrafted by Greg Norman himself, is a beautiful challenge to behold, with only 60 acres of mowable grass on fairways and greens that are closely framed by sand, resembling courses located in the deserts of the Southwest.
But here on the Grand Strand in the Southeast, seven holes on the Norman course flow along the Intracoastal Waterway. Norman spared no expense or hint of challenge, incorporating the property’s natural vegetation, a formal rough that surrounds one entire hole and bunkers with sod wall bunkering.
The Norman Course measures in at 7,200 yards long and a par 72. Players will be privy to Norman’s “bump and run” philosophy around the greens, which average 6,300 square feet. Tees and fairways are planted with GN-1 (a hybrid turf developed by Greg Norman Turf), approach areas are Tifdwarf grass and greens feature newly added Champion Ultra Dwarf Grass.
Don’t forget to take advantage of the 35,000-square-foot Barefoot Clubhouse and The Range at Barefoot, a lighted facility with more than 30 acres of manicured grass.
The Norman Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf was ranked in Golf Digest’s “Places to Play in 2004” and was No. 28 in the “Top 50 Courses of Myrtle Beach” by Golf Digest.
