Here’s something interesting - total rounds are down on the Grand Strand, yet Myrtle Beach golf course owners are happy as could be. What gives? Well, it turns out that with a few less golf courses, and with Myrtle Beach Direct Air & Tours bringing in eager golfers from such locations as Niagara and New York City, the Grand Strand golf scene continues to bloom. “All is good in the Myrtle Beach golf community,” Bob Swezey, executive vice president of Burroughs & Chapin Co.’s resorts division told Myrtle Beach Online recently. “Several years in a row our activity is up, ...

The Wizard golf course in Myrtle Beach

Monday August 27, 2007 | 11:40:11 104 words
In Myrtle Beach, many feel the golf options are downright magical. And in a world where Harry Potter books are tearing up the charts, a round at the Wizard Golf Links seems like the perfect plan. Designed by popular golf course architect Dan Maples, the Wizard is sure to dazzle. Maples moved an amazing 800,000 cubic yards of dirt to create a course full of elevation changes, rock bridges and more in a magical 18 holes of what can be best described as mountain golf. Mountain golf in Myrtle Beach? It must be magic. The kind of magic you can ...

The Witch Golf Links: A Myrtle Beach golfer's review

Monday August 13, 2007 | 12:11:36 159 words
The Myrtle Beach Insider officially agrees with writer Tim McDonald’s assessment of the Witch Golf Links. This is a golf course that has proven itself to be much more than just one of the “undiscovered gems” of the Grand Strand. The Witch may not give you stunning ocean views, but it makes up for it by giving players an eclectic and challenging round of golf. Tree-lined fairways and excellent condition are par for the course at the Witch, as is some cameo appearances by wild life. “The Witch makes its way nonchalantly through woods dark and deep, with ominous sounds ...

Myrtle Beach golf: Arrowhead & Wild Wing

Wednesday August 8, 2007 | 04:28:02 142 words
For some, a golf trip to Myrtle Beach means finding values where they can. There are too many great golf courses to play to spend all your money on just a couple rounds with exorbitant green fees. This is why runs like Arrowhead Country Club and Wild Wing Plantation are always busy. Wild Wing, with its famed Avocet Course, is always looking out for golfers, and has discount rates of around $50 throughout the year at specific times, and also offers $30 replays. Arrowhead is another course that wants you back, as this Raymond Floyd designed track offers players great ...

The Grand Strand got a great boost this year, when Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday announced that former PGA Tour player and ESPN golf commentator Charlie Rymer would be Myrtle Beach’s national spokesperson. The deal has made Rymer a busy man, as he has served as a host of “Links Illustrated,” the syndicated golf instruction television show hosted in Myrtle Beach. That’s by no means all, however. Rymer also contributes custom video content for the GolfHoliday.com site, conducted interviews at events and written a monthly column called “The Rymer Report” that appears exclusively on the Golf Holiday Web site. With so many golf courses, there’s always rebuilding going on in Myrtle Beach.
