Myrtle Beach golf tip: Is your grip too strong?

Tuesday July 31, 2007 | 03:21:25 224 words

Normally we spend our time here talking about the great golf courses and resorts of Myrtle Beach, as well as the special deals you can get to go to the Grand Strand. And why not, there’s so much here! But sometimes a golfer wants to just read about making their game better, like how to fix a golf grip too strong for success.

Luckily for you, we have access to some of the great minds of golf instruction. I checked in with the great Chuck Evans on this, and was told about one of the myths of golf: that a strong grip would eliminate a slice. Here’s what Evans had to say about that::

“Yeah right. We’ve all heard this and I bet you’ve even tried it. You probably took a lesson - or two - from the local pro and have spent a few dollars (or even a few hundred) to get rid of that nasty slice.

Heck, you might have even tried to fix that nasty thing yourself! But you quickly realized after hundreds of golf balls … it did not work. You heard me. It didn’t work, never has, and never will.

If you want to eliminate a slice, or a hook, you MUST learn how to control the clubface through the proper use of the left wrist. That’s all there is to it.”
